Our world-class Faculty forms the backbone of our education programs. Their real-world expertise and knowledge helps set Competent Boards apart from the ESG education competition.

Comprising 150+ business leaders and experts from around the world, we are always delighted to hear what they have been up to at their companies and in the media.

Kudos to Richard Barker, who recently became one of the inaugural appointees of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). The International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation (IFRS) established the ISSB last year to develop a global set of high-quality sustainability disclosure standards to help investors make better decisions. IFRS is also consolidating with the Climate Disclosure Standards Board and the Value Reporting Foundation (which has the Integrated Reporting Framework and the SASB Standards).

Richard has been Professor of Accounting at Saïd Business School, Oxford University, for the past 10 years. He is also a member of the Financial Reporting Advisory Board (FRAB), which advises the UK Treasury on government financial reporting, and the Expert Panel of Accounting for Sustainability (A4S, a Prince of Wales charity).

Congratulations are in order for Francesca Ecsery, who has started a new role as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Remunerations Committee at Haffner Energy. Haffner Energy is the designer and builder of Hynoca, a unique decarbonizing technology solution for producing competitive green hydrogen.

Francesca has a wealth of senior experience and sits on four other boards: F&C Investment Trust, Air France, Marshall Motor Holdings and The AIC. She is also a huge advocate for women in the workplace and gender equality. Francesca mentors women during their careers and is a huge promoter of the business benefits of gender equality at work.

Another member of the Saïd Business School, Charmian Love, gave an in-depth interview to 5, a media foundation dedicated to stories about global sustainable initiatives. Charmian spoke eloquently about her vision for the future: “I want to be a part of a movement of people who can look their kids in the eyes and say they did the best they could at a time when it really mattered. It’s not about me. It’s about we.”

Away from Competent Boards, Charmian is Social Entrepreneur in Residence at the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at Saïd Business School. She is also the Co-Founder and Activist in Residence at B Lab UK, where she supports the growth of B Corps across the UK, and is Co-Chair of B Lab’s Global Climate Taskforce.

We look forward to profiling more Faculty soon. Elvin Madamba is the ESG Research Lead for Competent Boards. Follow him on LinkedIn.
