Stéphanie Arcusa,

Postdoctoral Research Scholar, Center for Negative Carbon Emissions, Arizona State University

Stephanie is from France and is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Negative Carbon Emissions at Arizona State University. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences from University College Cork, Ireland, a Master’s degree in Climate Science from the University of Bern, Switzerland, and a doctorate in Climate and Environmental Change from Northern Arizona University, USA. Stephanie is a paleoclimatologist by training, meaning she studies the climate of the past, but her real passion however is finding ways to halt climate change. Over her academic training, Stephanie has led or been part of various projects that further emission reduction at the local, city, and higher education levels. Now, she is exploring the idea of carbon sequestration and is developing a regulatory framework with the aim of international implementation. Her current work takes a deep dive into certificates of carbon sequestration: what they are, how they work, and how they can guarantee safe, equitable, and successful sequestration. She also is helping lead a stakeholder engagement effort to identify place-based and socially, economically, environmentally, and culturally acceptable solutions to decarbonize the state of Arizona as part of a “net-zero industrial hub” for the Intermountain West.
